Safe water
EG05-008
Tibet suffers from a severe lack of water as 95 per cent of its rainfall occurs over just two months of the year. When rains don't come Tibetans in remote areas face malnutrition, sickness and worsening poverty. Provision of clean safe water through local pumps or gravity fed systems transforms small communities, leading to better health and harvests.
"Water is our main problem. There are only two wells for more than 100 families, both of which are contaminated."
Tenzin Lhunpo, Sengetse, Tibet.
