Hepatitis B is a major health problem for Tibetans, affecting one in ten of those living in India. Without treatment it can be life-threatening, causing scarring of the liver (cirrhosis) or liver cancer. It’s estimated 90% of liver cancer within the community is due to Hepatitis B. Many Tibetans can’t afford the long-term medication to keep the virus under control.
